About the author
Hi i’m James Whittaker an Interactive Designer and Developer residing in Worcester, UK where I live with my partner Rachel who I met at University. I’m currently employed as an Interactive Developer at Egg bank, now part of Citi group.
I also do bits of freelance design and development work, some of which you can see in the work section and I’m a moderator for FlexDeveloper.eu forum, where you can get help and advice on all ActionScript 3 and Flex stuff.
When not sat at my MacBook pro, I love traveling and cooking. In 2007 we visited Australia for the second time; its such a beautiful country and I fell in love with Melbourne, one day I might just take the plunge and move out there.
An interactive what?
I go by the title of ‘Interactive designer & developer’, what does this mean exactly? Well I’m a mixture of designer and developer. Basically I design and build the part of a website or application that people see and ‘interact with’. This was the area of development that was often forgotten about, never planned or budgeted for and was expected to just happen.
So what do you do then?
I love creating beautiful websites and applications that are engaging and useable. As an interface developer this means always looking towards the future, seeing the next wave of devices and technologies and being on the crest of that wave. The future is towards a more mobile, social web and that makes me really excited about what we can achieve in the coming years. Devices like the iPhone and the Wii offer new ways of interacting with content, creating new immersive experiences.
Currently working with the following technologies:
- XHTML, CSS and JavaScript – with the upmost respect for web standards, accessibility and progressive enhancement.
- Adobe Flex
- ActionScript 3
- Adobe AIR – The technology that allows you to build web applications that can run on your desktop.
Using the following tools when required:
- Adobe Creative Suite 3
- Photoshop
- A pen and pencil
